Skidmark's Message

This is a bunch of songs I wrote round 2003 2004. the gig was in Melbourne on a Saturday night at a pub called the Duke of Windsor, the night before we played the Tote and had no sleep what so ever, typical for a rock n roll weekend in melb.

I didn’t know we were being recorded; after the gig a dude said if we want a copy give him a 100 bux.

So in some ways it’s as rough as a bears ass and spontaneous, at some points I sound tired and others screaming my head off lol.

The disc sat in my garage for ages, when I had some spare cash I took it to Michael Carpenter @ Love Hurtz to mix it.

Then the mixed disc sat in my garage for like ages.

Bout 2 months ago I pulled it out again and mastered it.

I can’t really be fucked manufacturing it and posting copies all over the planet so I want to give it away for free, under the Creative Commons licence, so some rights are reserved.

It’s a good mix of songs, Drop the Bomb is kinda an echo of growing up in the 60’s, where the memories of WW2 were very present and Nam was right up our ass.

Long Way Down is about 2 mates who OD’d within a year of each other, both were extremely great rock n roll songwriters and were having great success in Europe. I used to bring their bands up to Sydney to play. They were both around 29.

Sunday Afternoon is kinda throw away crap, and One Eyed King as well.

This Time When I get Out Of Prision I am pretty proud of, I like to write prison songs like the master Johnny Cash, but with an aussie slant, the lead break is pure Neil Young, and the prison metaphor always applicable.

The Best Looking Women On William Street Are Men came about after I was showing some german rock n rollers a Sydney nightlife tour in my 66 ford XP. We went crusing checking out all the hookers and did a few laps down William st, as you cruise William st (it’s a main drag) it starts off with girls, then in the middle it’s the tranny section and near the end of the lap back to girls again.

This night all the girls were orribile looking burnt out ice and smack freaks with no teeth, um, and the trannies all looked like super models, not a hair outa place in expensive looking slutty hooker outfits, when we got to the end of the lap I said “the best looking women on William street are men, welcome to Sydney !!” . . . the song followed next day.

Rock N Roll Aint is as simple as it gets, 3 chords, repetitive lyrics, hyped up, it’s a 2 minute fuck in a toilet somewhere, and while we were feeling chaotic we closed the set with Crazy World.

There you go music lovers, please enjoy my little soundtrack for any activities, I would suggest playing it while drunk or fucking or speeding in a car, but that’s out of my control lol.

Thanks for having a listen

Merry X
